Last updated: 4 October 2026. This notice explains how Dakai Investments collects, uses and protects your personal information, in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA) and other applicable South African law.
1. Who we are
Dakai Investments ("Dakai", "we", "us") is the responsible party (data controller) for the personal information described in this notice. 2. What information we collect
- Information you give us: your name, email address and message when you use our contact form.
- Technical information: a salted, one-way hash of your IP address, your browser user agent, and the date and time of your submission. We do not store your raw IP address.
- Cookies and similar technologies: see section 6 below.
3. Why we process your information (lawful basis)
- To respond to your enquiry or request a quotation — performance of a contract or steps leading to a contract, and our legitimate interest in responding to you.
- To protect our website against spam and abuse — our legitimate interest in keeping the site secure.
- To comply with legal, tax and regulatory obligations — legal obligation.
4. How long we keep it
Contact enquiries are kept for up to 24 months from the date of submission, after which they are deleted. Rate-limit hashes are kept for 10 minutes only. If you ask us to delete your information earlier, we will do so unless we are legally required to keep it.
5. Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We may share it with:
- Our email and hosting service providers, who process it on our behalf under POPIA-compliant agreements and only for the purpose of delivering our services.
- Regulators, courts or law enforcement, only where the law requires us to do so.
6. Cookies and website usage
Our website uses only the minimum cookies and local storage needed to make the site work (for example, remembering which page you are on). We do not currently use advertising or third-party tracking cookies. If we introduce analytics or marketing cookies in future, we will ask for your consent first via a cookie banner, and we will update this notice. You can block or delete cookies in your browser at any time — the site will still work, but some features may behave differently.
7. Your rights under POPIA
You have the right to:
- Ask us what personal information we hold about you, and to receive a copy of it.
- Ask us to correct or delete information that is inaccurate, irrelevant, excessive or unlawfully obtained.
- Object to processing based on our legitimate interests.
- Withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on consent.
- Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa.
To exercise any of these rights, email info@dakai.co.za. We will respond within a reasonable time and in any event within 30 days.
8. Security
We protect your information with reasonable technical and organisational measures, including TLS encryption in transit, access control on our databases, and hashing of IP addresses. No online system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your data safe and to notify you and the Information Regulator if a breach ever affects you.
9. Cross-border transfers
Our hosting and email providers may store data outside South Africa. Where this happens, we only use providers that offer an adequate level of protection, and we put POPIA-compliant contractual safeguards in place.
10. Children
Our services are intended for adults and businesses. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Changes to this notice
We may update this notice from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will always show the current version. Material changes will be announced on this page.
